Philips 558M1RY among “Top 5 4K monitors” @ Esports.com (DACH)

esports.com, an esports-focussed website in German and English, based in Germany, recently published an article titled “Gaming equipment for the home – the 5 best 4K monitors in comparison” and included a short review of the Philips 558M1RY.

PROS

+ Very large screen

+ 4K with 120 Hz

+ Immense luminosity

+ RGB backlighting

+ Integrated soundbar + FreeSync Premium Pro

CONS

– Only 60 Hz for consoles

– Not very ergonomic

Verdict: “With its DisplayHDR 1000 certification, the Philips 558M1RY manages to make games look really impressive in HDR, just like its 43-inch colleague Acer Predator CG7. The 558M1RY also shares the rear LED lighting with the Acer. It’s called Ambiglow and does exactly the same thing as the Philips Ambilight known from the TV world: Ambiglow adjusts its brightness and colour to the picture content currently being displayed and thus creates a great lighting atmosphere. The 558M1RY can display its native 4K resolution at up to 120 Hz via a DisplayPort connection. Despite a response time of 4 ms (grey-to-grey), which is not particularly impressive on paper, it also manages to display Call of Duty and the like sharply and without noticeable input lag. Console gamers, on the other hand, are treated somewhat neglectfully by the Philips, because they are limited to 60 Hz with HDMI 2.0. The successor 559M1RYV solves this problem with its HDMI 2.1 ports, but at 1450 euros it costs considerably more.”
